TITLE:   Library Associate                      

                                                                           

QUALIFICATIONS:                                                           

  1. High school diploma or equivalent and one year of post high school education.
  2. Ability to work as a member of a team.
  3. Ability to communicate with others in a clear and concise manner.
  4. Ability to make good decisions independently.
  5. Ability to effectively manage students.
  6. Ability to operate library equipment and technology.
  7. Ability to organize work and materials.
  8. Ability to complete work in a timely and efficient manner.
  9. Ability to relate to students, staff, and public in a positive manner.
                                    

 

JOB GOAL:

Work and plan with administrators, school personnel, parents, students, civic groups, and community agencies to improve literacy and library use and support the research skills of District students and staff.  Plan, manage, and maintain a library space and collection that is inviting and encourages literacy and inquiry.  Serve as a resource for students, teachers, staff, administration, and parents for the use of library and media tools and resources.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:                                             

Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:     

  1. Performs a variety of clerical duties, including processing and library media; entering records and files; maintaining schedules for use of library resources; effectively maintaining the library book and media inventories, materials, software, and equipment; participating in ordering and maintaining of supplies and equipment; and storing, mending, and discarding materials according to standard procedures.
  2. Maintains the physical appearance and ease of use of the library, including the shelving of books and other library materials and media.
  3. Provides regular library materials check-out time for scheduled groups of students.
  4. Establishes behavioral standards and manages students in the library.
  5. Assists students in becoming effective and discriminating users of library resources.
  6. Develops and promotes programs related to the library, research, and literacy.
  7. Maintains online library catalog.
  8. Coordinates and effectively utilizes parent volunteers, student helpers, and other personnel to provide quality library service.
  9. Attends ongoing District professional development opportunities.
  10. Uses library services equipment.
  11. Performs additional duties as assigned.

 

LENGTH OF WORK YEAR/GRADE ON SALARY SCHEDULE:                             

9 Months / Grade D $16.68+ (DOE)

Performance will be evaluated by the site administrator.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Supervised by the site administrator and is a member of the District Library Services Team that is supported by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Supervises parent volunteers and student helpers.
