TITLE: Grounds KEEPER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Require high school diploma or equivalent.
- Require four years’ experience in landscaping.
- Possess an AZ Drivers License and maintain a safe driving record.
- Possess knowledge of basic tools and equipment used in grounds work.
- Possess some knowledge of repairing and maintaining hand and power equipment.
- Lift and manipulate equipment and materials weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Operate safely job-related equipment.
- Work in an outside environment for entire shift.
- Perform physical responsibilities as related to the job; for example, bending over for long periods of time.
- Relate to students, staff and public positive manner.
JOB GOAL:
This position is responsible for keeping the District’s grounds in such a state of operating excellence that present no problems or interruptions to the educational program or District marketing ability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil if needed.
- Plant seeds, bulbs, trees, and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce attractive appearance.
- Prune trees and trims hedges to promote growth and improve appearance and maintain line of site.
- Inspect flowers, shrubs, and trees for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests.
- Adjust and repair such equipment as lawnmowers, sprinklers, sprinkler timers.
- Collect and dispose of leaves, landscape refuse and other rubbish.
- Operate equipment including, but not limited to, the following: gator, front end loader, dump truck, towing trailers, turf mower.
- Operate basic garden tools including, but not limited to, power edger, auger, post hole digger, rototiller, chain saw, work truck with lift gate and trailer.
- Read all label and job-related information.
- Maintain flood irrigation at district sites.
- Understand and apply safety-related precautions as outlined in SDS (safety data sheets).
- Update and maintains drip and sprinkler systems, and desert landscaped areas as needed (weeds, trash, dead plants and etc.).
- Contribute to the team by accomplishing additional duties as assigned.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents in English as well as the ability to write routine correspondence in English. Ability to speak effectively in English before groups of customer or employees.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations / issues. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and verbal form.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated by Lead Grounds Keeper.
SUPERVISION:
Supervised by the Lead Grounds Keeper. Exercises no supervisory responsibilities.
GRADE / SALARY SCHEDULE / LENGTH OF WORK YEAR:
Grade B Salary Range: $16.20-$26.08 (DOE)
52 Weeks (split shift hours if needed) 40 hours per week / Benefits
